The Future Glory of Zion

35 The (A)wilderness and the [a]wasteland shall be glad for them,
And the (B)desert[b] shall rejoice and blossom as the rose;
(C)It shall blossom abundantly and rejoice,
Even with joy and singing.
The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it,
The excellence of Carmel and Sharon.
They shall see the (D)glory of the Lord,
The excellency of our God.

(E)Strengthen the [c]weak hands,
And make firm the [d]feeble knees.
Say to those who are fearful-hearted,
“Be strong, do not fear!
Behold, your God will come with (F)vengeance,
With the recompense of God;
He will come and (G)save you.”

Then the (H)eyes of the blind shall be opened,
And (I)the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.
Then the (J)lame shall leap like a deer,
And the (K)tongue of the dumb sing.
For (L)waters shall burst forth in the wilderness,
And streams in the desert.
The parched ground shall become a pool,
And the thirsty land springs of water;
In (M)the habitation of jackals, where each lay,
There shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

A (N)highway shall be there, and a road,
And it shall be called the Highway of Holiness.
(O)The unclean shall not pass over it,
But it shall be for others.
Whoever walks the road, although a fool,
Shall not go astray.
(P)No lion shall be there,
Nor shall any ravenous beast go up on it;
It shall not be found there.
But the redeemed shall walk there,
10 And the (Q)ransomed of the Lord shall return,
And come to Zion with singing,
With everlasting joy on their heads.
They shall obtain joy and gladness,
And (R)sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

A Rebellious People

Now go, (A)write it before them on a tablet,
And note it on a scroll,
That it may be for time to come,
Forever and ever:
That (B)this is a rebellious people,
Lying children,
Children who will not hear the law of the Lord;
10 (C)Who say to the seers, “Do not see,”
And to the prophets, “Do not prophesy to us right things;
(D)Speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits.
11 Get out of the way,
Turn aside from the path,
Cause the Holy One of Israel
To cease from before us.”

12 Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel:

“Because you (E)despise this word,
And trust in oppression and perversity,
And rely on them,
13 Therefore this iniquity shall be to you
(F)Like a breach ready to fall,
A bulge in a high wall,
Whose breaking (G)comes suddenly, in an instant.
14 And (H)He shall break it like the breaking of the potter’s vessel,
Which is broken in pieces;
He shall not spare.
So there shall not be found among its fragments
[a]A shard to take fire from the hearth,
Or to take water from the cistern.”

15 For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel:

(I)“In returning and rest you shall be saved;
In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.”
(J)But you would not,
16 And you said, “No, for we will flee on horses”—
Therefore you shall flee!
And, “We will ride on swift horses”—
Therefore those who pursue you shall be swift!

17 (K)One thousand shall flee at the threat of one,
At the threat of five you shall flee,
Till you are left as a [b]pole on top of a mountain
And as a banner on a hill.

God Will Be Gracious

18 Therefore the Lord will wait, that He may be (L)gracious to you;
And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you.
For the Lord is a God of justice;
(M)Blessed are all those who (N)wait for Him.

19 For the people (O)shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem;
You shall (P)weep no more.
He will be very gracious to you at the sound of your cry;
When He hears it, He will (Q)answer you.
20 And though the Lord gives you
(R)The bread of adversity and the water of [c]affliction,
Yet (S)your teachers will not be moved into a corner anymore,
But your eyes shall see your teachers.
21 Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying,
“This is the way, walk in it,”
Whenever you (T)turn to the right hand
Or whenever you turn to the left.

The Son of Man Will Judge the Nations

31 (A)“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the [a]holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 (B)All the nations will be gathered before Him, and (C)He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the (D)sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, (E)inherit the kingdom (F)prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 (G)for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; (H)I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was (I)naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; (J)I was in prison and you came to Me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, (K)inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, (L)‘Depart from Me, you cursed, (M)into the everlasting fire prepared for (N)the devil and his angels: 42 for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’

44 “Then they also will answer [b]Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ 45 Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, (O)inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ 46 And (P)these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

13 Then I heard a voice from heaven saying [a]to me, “Write: (A)‘Blessed are the dead (B)who die in the Lord from now on.’ ”

“Yes,” says the Spirit, (C)“that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow (D)them.”

Reaping the Earth’s Harvest

14 Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and on the cloud sat One like the Son of Man, having on His head a golden crown, and in His hand a sharp sickle. 15 And another angel (E)came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to Him who sat on the cloud, (F)“Thrust in Your sickle and reap, for the time has come [b]for You to reap, for the harvest (G)of the earth is ripe.” 16 So He who sat on the cloud thrust in His sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped.

Reaping the Grapes of Wrath

17 Then another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle.

18 And another angel came out from the altar, (H)who had power over fire, and he cried with a loud cry to him who had the sharp sickle, saying, (I)“Thrust in your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth, for her grapes are fully ripe.” 19 So the angel thrust his sickle into the earth and gathered the vine of the earth, and threw it into (J)the great winepress of the wrath of God. 20 And (K)the winepress was trampled (L)outside the city, and blood came out of the winepress, (M)up to the horses’ bridles, for one thousand six hundred [c]furlongs.

Prelude to the Bowl Judgments

15 Then (N)I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous: (O)seven angels having the seven last plagues, (P)for in them the wrath of God is complete.

And I saw something like (Q)a sea of glass (R)mingled with fire, and those who have the victory over the beast, (S)over his image and [d]over his mark and over the (T)number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, (U)having harps of God. They sing (V)the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the (W)Lamb, saying:

(X)“Great and marvelous are Your works,
Lord God Almighty!
(Y)Just and true are Your ways,
O King of the [e]saints!
(Z)Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name?
For You alone are (AA)holy.
For (AB)all nations shall come and worship before You,
For Your judgments have been manifested.”
